On any given day, our DeSoto Plant produces 560 tons of aggregate material per hour, making it one of our highest production plants year-round. In order to keep up with the fast-paced nature of the facility, our team is both adaptable and versatile – two words that perfectly describe Spencer Higganbothan, leadman of the DeSoto Plant. His teammates will certainly tell you the same, and much more.
A valuable asset to our team for more than 8 years now, Spencer got his start with our family of companies at the Anderson Plant. When Spencer was first hired, he filled the role of groundman before training his way to plant operator and now his current role of leadman.
Known as a “jack of all trades” in his day-to-day role, Spencer humbly wears many hats that range from planning and scheduling to maintenance and overseeing equipment. “You won’t find him in a single role… he’s everywhere,” DeSoto Plant Foreman, Stan Wright, remarked, “The most impressive part about Spencer is that he’s ready to step into any role when anyone is absent, including my position.”
John Paul Finerson, VP of Production, echoed Stan’s remarks, stating, “As leadman, Spencer does pretty much anything – he checks on production and plants, helps Stan with paperwork and assists with time keeping. He fills in the gaps where Stan needs him to.”
Yet, others will tell you that Spencer’s strong work ethic and humility are traits that are somehow outranked by his diligent care and watchful eye for the safety of others. “Spencer is always concerned about the safety of his teammates,” said Stan. Spencer carries on this precedent as a member of Continuous Improvement Team #2. In this role, he regularly attends safety meetings and brings back information to share for the betterment of the team.
Spencer holds true to our core values, one way of which is by building great relationships. “He doesn’t have an agenda for himself… He wants the whole team to succeed. The guys really look up to him,” said Stan. Often credited for his great leadership skills, Spencer is a loved and highly esteemed member of the DeSoto Plant team.
