Memphis Stone & Gravel Co., a local aggregate supplier, and Lehman-Roberts Co., a leader in the highway paving, construction and asphalt industry and sister company of Memphis Stone & Gravel Co., today announced that they have moved their corporate offices to 670 S. Cooper St., the former home of Toof American Digital. Fleming Architects was the designer and Grinder Tabor Grinder was the general contractor for the 85,000-square-foot building renovation.
“I am so grateful for the men and women who make our companies successful and a welcoming place to work,” said Pat Nelson, President of Lehman-Roberts Co. and Chairman of the Board of Directors. “I am very excited about our new home, and it is my hope that this space will serve us well for many years to come.”
Together, the two companies have 350 employees and 15 locations — asphalt plants, paving operations and aggregate production facilities — across the Mid-South. However, since 1942, they have operated out of their main campus at 1111 Wilson St. in Soulsville. While the metal fabrication shop and equipment maintence facility will remain in operation at the Wilson Street location, 50 leadership and administrative support employees will move to the Midtown office.
The decision to move the companies’ corporate offices to the new space was a result of longterm strategic planning. The executive leadership team determined that they needed a building that supported their vision around people and culture, which included collaborative space and room for the training and development of employees. The new Midtown headquarters includes an open-plan office and a training room that seats 100 people. The companies’ hope is to not only use this space for the education, training and development of their employees, but also offer it to their contractor partners and other guests to use.
Over the years, Lehman-Roberts Co. and Memphis Stone & Gravel Co. have become a staple of the Soulsville community they have been part of for nearly 80 years, living out their mission statement: “To help the communities where we live and work to thrive.” This commitment culminates each January during their annual Day of Service. Since 2015, the companies’ involvement has expanded to more than 15 community partners and approximately 75 service projects in and around the Soulsville community. Though their corporate offices have moved a few miles, the companies remain commited to the Soulsville community.
