On May 10, 2007, Memphis Stone and Gravel Company (MSG) hosted Ms. Deborah Colvin and her CLUE class from Idlewild School in Memphis. Over 60 students and 7 adults attended the plant tour at MSG's Anderson Plant in Desoto County, MS. It was a little rainy, but that just made collecting more fruitful! When the gravels are wet it is easier to spot agate, fossils and other interesting finds...

The tour started with a lesson in the "Mining Cycle" then Participants got to see stripping, mining, processing and reclamation in process. We took the school bus down to the active mine face and the participants walked within a few feet of the digging units.  The field trip ended with ample time to collect rocks, minerals, and fossils in the gravel stockpiles.  The students brought a sack lunch and ate at the site. Memphis Stone provided a picnic area and drinks and snacks for the group.  It turned out to be a fun day.
